Within the NHL, there are some teams who have almost necessary aspects of their fan base or arena atmosphere that is known across the league. Detroit has the octopus being hurled onto the ice. The Blue Jackets have their loud cannon. Montreal has its, French-Canadianness. And in Winnipeg, when the playoffs roll around, they have their whiteout.
For home games, every single fan is decked head to toe in white, creating this stark bright image whenever you tune in and you know it’s up there in Manitoba where this hockey game is being played.
On Saturday night, the Jets had Game 1 against the St. Louis Blues. It opened the entire 2025 Stanley Cup Playoffs and knowing this, a whole lot of fans turned up wearing their best colorless outfit. For most hockey fans that were craving the best time of year, they were going to tune into the first game and it was going to be a whiteout on their screens.
Well, a complete whiteout except one specific fan who was in attendance at the Canada Life Centre, sitting three rows up behind netminder Connor Hellebuyck.

One dedicated fan of our Philadelphia Flyers found himself in Winnipeg for Game 1 of their all-important first round and instead of just wearing whatever basic white T-shirt that the game operations staff up there hands out to pull off this stunt, he wore what he brought: A Flyers jersey. Sticking out like a not-so-sore thumb, there he is and giving a major spotlight on the Flyers, drawing the attention in a sea of bland visuals.
A hero to make it all about the Flyers, even when they are nowhere near the playoffs and we are all focused on who they could draft in the first round this June. And instead, we get to now see that logo in the playoffs ever so briefly.
But to maybe put our Orange and Black tinfoil hat on in some following highlights and through the game, from what we recall, he was nowhere to be seen from behind Hellebuyck. Whether coincidentally there was a trip to get another beer or the Flyers jersey was taken off after the introductions (or forced off???) is still a mystery, but we will be seeking out this truth.
Big shoutout to him, though.
