The Philadelphia Flyers have made their decision after going several weeks without a head coach. On Thursday, the Flyers announced that they have hired Rick Tocchet to be the team’s 25th head coach in franchise history.
It is a move that has been met with confusion, some acceptance, some disappointment, a whole lot of shrugging, and even just a pinch of disgust from the fan base. Any which way you want to approach the hiring, you can probably find some people that feel the same way. Whether you want to scream because it is just So Classic Flyers to bring on a former player in an important off-ice role, or if you really think that his time winning the Pacific Division with the Vancouver Canucks showed his true capabilities as a bench boss; there are people that will agree.
That is why I decided to get to the root of it. And if I had to talk about what is going on (or what has gone on) with the Vancouver Canucks, I would turn to my friend Jackson McDonald, a former editor of CanucksArmy and longtime podcaster on Roxy Fever. There may not be someone who knows as much as the team but is also not afraid to get their access taken away or hear some repercussions from the team for what they said, than Jackson.

In our conversation that went just a little over an hour, we touched on a whole lot of topics and got some answers that I wanted to get.
- How will Tocchet deal with ultraskilled players like Matvei Michkov?
- Was the one great year in Vancouver real or fake?
- How different are his systems and tactics to John Tortorella?
- Is he the right coach for a team that is moving into the next phase of a rebuild?
- How can Tocchet affect the power play?
- And genuinely, so much more.
Have a listen and know just a little bit more about what to expect from Tocchet coaching in Philadelphia
