Philadelphia Flyers rookie sensation Matvei Michkov started his offseason with a bit of a bang.

According to an array of sources, Michkov was a passenger in a car that was involved in an accident in Dubai. The grey BMW convertible that was a rental that could have possibly been in the Flyers winger’s name, sustained damage to the front passenger side fender and the air bag appeared to inflate where Michkov was seated. Thankfully, he was uninjured in the incident.

According to a report from Russian outlet MatchTV, there may have been shady business such as extortion because of withholding some passports and to not get any story out to the media. Again, according to this one single report, this appears to be a much more serious story than a star hockey player getting involved in an accident while on vacation. But, that part of the story should be left to the larger reporters to cover.

It’s not the first time Michkov has been in Dubai as he’s seemed to visit the region often. During the two-week break the NHL took during the Four Nations Face-Off, Michkov posted an Instagram photo of him in the United Arab Emirates. So he’s no stranger to the area. And although there’s speculation as to the cause of the accident, all that is known for sure is the Flyers were aware of the incident and, most importantly, Michkov wasn’t injured in the accident.

Michkov had 26 goals and 63 points in 80 games this season. He also impressed Danny Briere with his list of things to improve on in his exit interview after the year ended. Hopefully this is the only mishap Michkov is connected to this season, whether on vacation or preparing for the 2025-26 season.
