Flyers’ Egor Zamula could be moved before trade deadline

Could the Flyers end up trading Egor Zamula at this year’s NHL trade deadline?

The Philadelphia Flyers are getting plenty of calls on veteran center Scott Laughton and defenseman Rasmus Ristolainen has been in rumors as well. But there could be another player worth keeping an eye on.

There’s always the chance that a wild card trade piece turns up and the Flyers could have one in defenseman Egor Zamula. Zamula has been a serviceable third-pairing guy for the Flyers but that might be his ceiling at this point.

According to Toronto Maple Leafs podcaster Steve “Dangle” Glynn, Zamula is a name that could be in play.

This should obviously be taken with a huge grain of salt as the man they call Dangle is known more for his YouTube reactions than anything else, but moving Zamula could make sense for the Flyers.

The Flyers have at least four roster defensemen better than Zamula and it’s safe to say that there are a few AHLers that could fill in for him and play just as well if not better (see: Andrae, Emil).

Zamula, 24, is under contract for one more season at a $1.7 million cap hit before becoming a restricted free agent. He has 14 points in 44 games for the Flyers this season after putting up 21 points in 66 games last year. It does feel like the Russian rearguard is a third-pairing guy and nothing more.

The Leafs have been linked to Laughton for months now but haven’t budged on the Flyers’ asking price. Perhaps adding Zamula to the package and making it a larger trade could make sense for both sides.

Toronto placed Ryan Reaves on waivers on Thursday which could potentially be a precursor to a trade.

It could ultimately mean nothing, but we love trade rumors don’t we? Especially with just over 24 hours until the deadline.
