‘It’s his loss’: Konecny chirps Cutter Gauthier during first visit to Philadelphia

If anyone had some words about Cutter Gauthier coming to Philadelphia for the first time since he refused to sign with the Flyers and forced his way out of town, it would be Travis Konecny. And did he ever give it to him on and off the ice.

With his team up 3-0 over the visiting Anaheim Ducks, Konecny was given the opportunity to give his thoughts on Gauthier’s return to Philadelphia and him spurning the Flyers, the very team that is dominating this Saturday night matchup.

“Yeah, I mean the crowd is doing it all,” Konecny said during the second intermission. “It’s been a lot of fun playing tonight. I mean, I don’t know the kid. We’re just giving him a hard time. When you come and by a Flyer, you don’t really understand until you’re here, it means a lot. It’s his loss. On to the next one, we don’t really care.”

That is probably the most polite way you can tell someone to kick rocks and that they made an extremely stupid mistake.

Gauthier, of course, told the Flyers that he was not going to sign with them after he was selected fifth overall at the 2022 NHL Draft, forcing his way out in a trade to the Ducks and defenseman Jamie Drysdale came the other way. — who just so happened to have scored against his former team on Saturday. And now, after finishing his collegiate career and signing with the Ducks, he was able to make his first visit to the city that was ready to welcome him in with open arms but was instead given a giant middle finger.

And now, Gauthier, at the time of writing, is on the wrong side of a 6-0 game and has thousands of Philadelphians that will hate him for the rest of his career. And, we got to witness him sheepishly being put into a corner by Konecny on the ice, as he went to bat for what it means to be a Flyer.

Konecny is a Philadelphia Flyer. Cutter is not and will never understand what it truly means. Like Konecny said, it’s his loss.

Maybe it was facing someone who did not want to be his teammate, but Konecny was on fire Saturday night. In the 6-0 win, the 27-year-old had four assists and all four of them were primary assists. He was controlling the game at an unbelievable level and maybe it really was facing the number one enemy of the entire city of Philadelphia.
