Welcome to BSH’s weekly prospect update, where we will be serving up stats and insight on what our homegrown players have been up to. This will include prospects in Canadian Juniors (BCHL, OHL, QMJHL & WHL), Europe (SHL, KHL), and NCAA college hockey. Notable Canadian junior performers this week:
Jay O’Brien (C), Penticton Vees (BCHL)
2018 1st Round Pick, 19th overall
Jay O’Brien remains NOT a prospect for those all keeping score at home. He has only 45 points (15 G, 30 A) in 32 games.
Mason Millman (D), Saginaw Spirit (OHL)
2019 4th Round Pick, 103rd overall
Mason Millman broke his four-game pointless drought, but then started up a new one this weekend. The 18 year old has 14 points (5 G, 9 A) in 26 contests.
Yegor Serdyuk (RW), Victoriaville Tigres (QMJHL)
2019 6th Round Pick, 165th overall
Make that three straight weeks out of the lineup for Serdyuk. He last played on 11/10.
Wyatte Wylie (D), Everett Silvertips (WHL)
2018 5th Round Pick, 127th overall
This week was just the second time this season (24 games) that Wyatte Wylie was held pointless in back-to-back games. The fourth year WHLer has 22 points (7 G, 15 A) this season.
Egor Zamula (D), Calgary Hitmen (WHL)
Undrafted Free Agent
How dare our primo WHL defensemen prospects both have quiet weeks. Quite outrageous I’ll say. Despite all that, Egor Zamula has 25 points (6 G, 19 A) in 25 games, putting him fourth among WHL defensemen in scoring.
Roddy Ross (G), Seattle Thunderbirds (WHL)
2019 6th Round Pick, 169th overall
Rowdy Ross puts together arguably his best start since his first of the season on Saturday. The second season WHLer has a .912 SV% in 19 games.
Notable European performers this week:
Linus Högberg (D), Växjö Lakers HC (SHL)
2016 5th Round Pick, 139th overall
The Hog still getting third pairing minutes this week is a little concerning considering he was borderline first pairing earlier in the season.
Olle Lycksell (RW/C), Linköping HC (SHL)
2017 6th Round Pick, 168th overall
Nothing for Olle Lycksell this week as he remains at 12 points (3 G, 9 A) in 21 games.
Samuel Ersson (G), Brynäs IF (SHL)
2018 5th Round Pick, 143rd overall
- 11/28 – 1 GA, 27 saves
- 11/30 – 3 GA, 16 saves/
Ersson follows up a shutout with another solid start, before struggling again on Saturday. The talented first year SHLer has a .885 SV% in nine games this season.
Marcus Westfält (C), Västerviks IK (Allsvenskan)
2018 7th Round Pick, 205th overall
Marcus Westfält has three points (a goal and two assists) in 25 games.
Adam Ginning (D), HC Vita Hästen (Allsvenskan)
2018 2nd Round Pick, 50th overall
In 14 games so far he has produced four assists since being loaned to Allsvenskan.
David Bernhardt (D), SaiPa (Liiga)
2016 7th Round Pick, 199th overall
Since transferring to Liiga, Bernhardt has been held scoreless through seven games.
Ivan Fedotov (G), Traktor Chelyabinsk (KHL)
2015 7th Round Pick, 188th overall
The 22 year old has a .927 SV% in 14 games this season in the KHL.
Notable collegiate performers this week:
Bobby Brink (RW), University of Denver
2019 2nd Round Pick, 34th overall
Bobby Brink and Denver had off this weekend. The freshman has 11 points (6 G, 5 A) in 14 games thus far.
Wade Allison (RW), Western Michigan University
2016 2nd Round Pick, 52nd overall
Allison gets a break and doesn’t miss a game this week…because WMU had off.
Tanner Laczynski (C), Ohio State University
2016 6th Round Pick, 169th overall
Not a huge weekend for Laczynski, but he does net his fifth goal of the season, giving him 14 points in 14 games.
Noah Cates (LW), University of Minnesota-Duluth
2017 5th Round Pick, 137th overall
The Cates breakout took a…break this weekend. The sophomore remains at 12 points (7 G, 5 A) in 14 games.
Bryce Brodzinski (RW), University of Minnesota
2019 7th Round Pick, 196th overall
The freshman has struggled to get going offensively. Brodzinski has five points (1 G, 4 A) in 16 games.
Gavin Hain (C), University of North Dakota
2018 6th Round Pick, 174th overall
Despite beating Brodzinski’s Minnesota team handily this weekend, Hain wasn’t a factor. The sophomore has struggled all season to the tune of just three points (1 G, 2 A) in 14 games.
Cam York (D), University of Michigan
2019 1st Round Pick, 14th overall
York and Michigan squared off against Wyatt Kalynuk and Wisconsin in a two-game set. They matched each other fairly evenly with York collecting his third goal of the season on a nice PP snipe. The quick release looked awfully dreamy. York has seven points (3 G, 4 A) in 12 games.
Wyatt Kalynuk (D), University of Wisconsin
2017 7th Round Pick, 196th overall
As Kalynuk wasn’t going to be outdone, he notched his third goal of the season as well. As you can see he looks awfully comfortable in the offensive zone. The junior has 13 points in 16 games.
Ronnie Attard (D), Western Michigan University
2019 3rd Round Pick, 72nd overall
Attard gets to another week to nurse whatever his injury might be with WMU off. The freshman has five points (4 G, 1 A) in 10 games.
Jack St. Ivany (D), Yale University
2018 4th Round Pick, 112nd overall
- 11/26 – 3 shots/
Nothing cooking for St. Ivany who remains at five points (all assists) in nine games.
