Welcome to BSH’s weekly prospect update, where we will be serving up stats and insight on what our homegrown players have been up to. This will include prospects in Canadian Juniors (BCHL, OHL, QMJHL & WHL), Europe (SHL, KHL), and NCAA college hockey. Notable Canadian junior performers this week:
Jay O’Brien (C), Penticton Vees (BCHL)
2018 1st Round Pick, 19th overall
Status quo for O’Brien who is riding a five-game point streak. He is up to 29 points (11 G, 18 A) in 20 games. He is third in the BCHL in points-per-game. Here is Jay’s 11th goal, off of a bad goalie turnover.
Mason Millman (D), Saginaw Spirit (OHL)
2019 4th Round Pick, 103rd overall
- 11/1 – 1 assist, 4 shots/
Millman continues to bust out offensively. After scoring just one point in his first 11 games, he has nine in his last six games. Overall he has 10 points (5 G, 5 A) in 17 contests. Saginaw was supposed to have another game last week, but had it postponed due to an ice issue with no reschedule date announced.
Yegor Serdyuk (RW), Victoriaville Tigres (QMJHL)
2019 6th Round Pick, 165th overall
The struggles for Serdyuk continue as he is now scoreless in his last four games and has just one point in his last seven.
Wyatte Wylie (D), Everett Silvertips (WHL)
2018 5th Round Pick, 127th overall
Wylie now has the third highest point total for defensemen in the WHL and is just two points off the league-lead (in which Wylie has played in three less games). He now has 15 points (3 G, 12 A) in 15 games.
Egor Zamula (D), Calgary Hitmen (WHL)
Undrafted Free Agent
Zamula surprisingly with no points this past week and has fallen behind in the defensive scoring leaderboard. His 15 points (4 G, 11 A) in 14 games has him tied with fellow prospect Wyatte Wylie.
Roddy Ross (G), Seattle Thunderbirds (WHL)
2019 6th Round Pick, 169th overall
- 11/1 – 3 GA, 36 saves/
Rowdy gets another loss this week in a lackluster effort by both him and his team. Seattle has struggled to score this season (just 34 goals in 15 games played). Ross has a .917 SV% in 12 of those games.
Notable European performers this week:
Linus Högberg (D), Växjö Lakers HC (SHL)
2016 5th Round Pick, 139th overall
The Hog matches his SHL career-high in goals at two, but wait for it, has done it in only 16 games this season as opposed to 42 and 52 in previous years. The 21 year old has six total points in 16 games.
David Bernhardt (D), SaiPa (Liiga)
2016 7th Round Pick, 199th overall
Bernhardt has now been missing out of the lineup with illness/healthy scratches and was just announced he has transferred to Liiga, the top Finnish pro league.
Olle Lycksell (RW/C), Linköping HC (SHL)
2017 6th Round Pick, 168th overall
Olle Lycksell might be that surprise breakout prospect of the 2019-20 season. Lycksell is up to 10 points (3 G, 7 A) in 16 games, just two points off his career-high he set last year in 51 games. As a reminder, he is 20 years old in Sweden’s top professional league.
Samuel Ersson (G), Brynäs IF (SHL)
2018 5th Round Pick, 143rd overall
While Ersson played most of the games two weeks ago, he gave away to Joacim Eriksson this week in both of Brynas’ wins. Ersson has a .872 SV% in seven games.
Marcus Westfält (C), Västerviks IK (Allsvenskan)
2018 7th Round Pick, 205th overall
Marcus Westfält has three points (a goal and two assists) in 17 games.
Adam Ginning (D), HC Vita Hästen (Allsvenskan)
2018 2nd Round Pick, 50th overall
Ginning has been struggling and has now been loaned to Vita Hasten of the Allsvenskan League. In five games so far he has produced one assist.
Ivan Fedotov (G), Traktor Chelyabinsk (KHL)
2015 7th Round Pick, 188th overall
Fedotov continues to show that he belongs in the KHL. The 22 year old has a .932 SV% in 12 games this season.
Notable collegiate performers this week:
Bobby Brink (RW), University of Denver
2019 2nd Round Pick, 34th overall
Denver just continues to obliterate opponents and are 8-0 on the season. Bobby Brink has been a big part of that with seven points (4 G, 3 A) and is fourth on the team in scoring. Here is his fourth goal.
Wade Allison (RW), Western Michigan University
2016 2nd Round Pick, 52nd overall
Make that two straight weekends that Allison is out of the WMU lineup with an undisclosed injury.
Tanner Laczynski (C), Ohio State University
2016 6th Round Pick, 169th overall
I was hoping for better than a point-per-game season from senior Laczynski. His nine points (1 G, 8 A) in eight games does put him in the Top 50 in NCAA scoring.
Noah Cates (LW), University of Minnesota-Duluth
2017 5th Round Pick, 137th overall
No games for UMD this week. They’ll be back in action this weekend against Bobby Brink and Denver.
Bryce Brodzinski (RW), University of Minnesota
2019 7th Round Pick, 196th overall
Brodzinski picks up just his second point (and assist) of the season in his first eight collegiate games.
Gavin Hain (C), University of North Dakota
2018 6th Round Pick, 174th overall
- 11/2 – 1 goal, 1 shot/
While Hain did have a goal, it was of the empty-net variety in UND’s win on Saturday. The sophomore has three points (1 G, 2 A) in six games.
Cam York (D), University of Michigan
2019 1st Round Pick, 14th overall
York with his first NCAA goal on this sweet wraparound effort. The freshman has four points in five games.
Wyatt Kalynuk (D), University of Wisconsin
2017 7th Round Pick, 196th overall
Kalynuk FINALLY gets that first goal of the season. He has seven points in eight games. Wisconsin has struggled overall, despite all the talent, going 4-4 thus far.
Ronnie Attard (D), Western Michigan University
2019 3rd Round Pick, 72nd overall
Both of Attard’s goal this weekend were at 5-on-5. The freshman has four points (3 G, 1 A) in his first eight collegiate games.
Jack St. Ivany (D), Yale University
2018 4th Round Pick, 112nd overall
Yale (and the rest of the Ivy League) get their season underway. Ivany had a strong start to the 2018-19 season, but slowly faded down the stretch. He had 14 points (6 G, 8 A) in 30 games.
