“The Flyers are alleged to be interested in New York Islanders defenseman Andrew MacDonald, who led the NHL in blocked shots by more than 20 entering Thursday’s action. The 27-year-old blueliner is an unrestricted free agent to-be.”
Kevin C. |
yea I read that earlier
Kurt R. |
throw me out of a window if the Flyers get Andrew MacDonald
Kevin C. |
I keep meaning to look into MacDonald.
For me, it’s less about the player (and I won’t pretend I’m an expert on Andrew MacDonald) and more the fact that the guy turned down 4 mill a year already
Kurt R. |
here’s your primer on andrew macdonald
“With the 9th-worst Corsi% in the league among defenders, even the most rudimentary analyst should be able to figure out that something has gone amiss here. The only players worse than him in the entire league play for possession luminaries like Toronto and Edmonton and Buffalo. While the Islanders are certainly not a good team, their possession numbers as a team are clearly out of the basement. MacDonald is the only Islander in the bottom fifty defenders (with 44+ games) in the league in terms of Corsi.
Corsi does not tell the whole story on its own, though. Perhaps he is just being bogged down by tough deployment and competition. He has indeed received tough deployment, the toughest among defenders on the Islanders. When we look at just his end-zone starts (so, excluding his shifts that start in the neutral zone), he starts in the offensive zone just 46.7% of the time. That’s the 33rd lowest figure in the league. How about his competition? If his opponents are regularly tough, surely that would drag down his possession numbers. Well, his competition is surely tough. He faces the 42nd toughest overall competition in the league.”

he sucks.
Kevin C. |
sweet thanks
Kurt R. |
know how grossmann’s WOWYs are awful with everyone but he gets praised tremendously because of blocked shots?
Andrew MacDonald is that on steroids

Kelly H. |
Good morning.
Kurt R. |
i wrote about the flyers last night, so that was fun for me
Allison J. |
hahahahhaha
sounds like a blast
9:55 AM
Kevin C. |
very interesting read on MacDonald. Thanks Kurt

Albert K. |

Albert K. |
if the flyers get macdonald i will die
Kurt R. |
kevin, i think i’ve read a half-dozen articles just like that one from fans of other teams in the past week or so
saying “DO NOT WANT”, basically
Kevin C. |
haha
I wonder what traditionalists think of him, with the eye test
Kurt R. |
fortunately, the isles are apparently asking for a first-rounder and i think that unless the flyers get a really really really good offer they won’t trade that pick in advance of the draft
Albert K. |
this worth a post?
10:05 AM
Kurt R. |
like I said, Kevin
he’s Grossmann
but smaller
Kelly H. |
I’m an eyeballs-watcher and I want no part of Andrew MacDonald. Whatever that’s worth.
Kurt R. |
and plays 25 minutes a game
i’m sure people love him
Kevin C. |
since I have NHL Vault (and didn’t know it) I’m on this kick of wanting to challenge my stat driven self by watching tape
I mean, clearly I watch a lot of hockey, but I like the thought of challenging what it is I think I know and approaching it with film study only
(now…I wish a lot of traditionalists would do the same and consider that stats just may add value)
Albert K. |
think about a grossman macdonald pairing
just think about it
Kevin C. |
lol
no shot would EVER make it to the net :-p
Kurt R. |
they’d exhibit so much truculence
Kevin C. |
they’d block every shot out of the zone. For 100% zone exits
Kurt R. |
presumably because they would spend literally every moment blocking shots
10:10 AM
Albert K. |
so question
in the realm of reality, what should the flyers be doing right now in terms of acquiring players
i know the whole meszaros thing
Kevin C. |
I think reality is they do almost nothing
Albert K. |
but like, i get the feeling that the holes right now are just too big to plug, and if they thing macdonald is the answer we are totally fucked
Kevin C. |
they kind of have a crowded roster
you already have 8 D. You already have top 6 forwards playing out of position because you have too many.
I’d love to see someone like Mesz or other pending UFAs moved. but I’m not holding my breath
several people have mentioned “do waht the Sharks did last year” but I can’t see Homer and Snider doing that
Albert K. |
thats my thought. i keep looking at the team and feel like the overabundance of players isnt helping
particularly regarding Gus
and Vinny
definitely vinny
Kevin C. |
yea
Kelly H. |
Are we talking about what we think is realistic or what we think Homer/Snider think is realistic?
Albert K. |
i guess what we think is realistic?
Kevin C. |
I wonder if Sam Hinkie can GM hockey?
that would be interesting
I don’t even like basketball and I’m interested

Kurt R. |
#h1nk13
hahaha “hinkie” looks like “hinkle”.
Kelly H. |
I’m not familiar with him. I follow basketball about as closely as I follow Pakistani cricket leagues
yeah we’re best friends
