Yesterday we looked at the young forwards as they develop (hopefully) into core parts of the next great Flyers team, so today we’re looking at the veteran forwards of merit, of which there are only two: Sean Couturier and Travis Konecny.
That’s not to say these two players won’t be part of the future–they very much will, with Couturier’s contract running through 2030, and Konecny’s eight-year extension beginning at the start of the 2025 season. They’ve both established themselves as leaders of this team and will likely be here for the long haul, for better or worse.
Let’s start with the captain.

What did we see from Couturier last season?
Frankly, it was just good to see Coots at all: by the time he took the ice for Game 1 of the 2023-24 regular season, it’d been nearly two years since Couturier had played an NHL game. And he looked pretty good! For a few months, before the wheels fell off and we learned in the off season that he’d been dealing with a sports hernia and then got surgery for it. How bad was the drop? In 74 games, Couturier scored 11 goals and 38 points–and 31 of those points came before the All-Star break, which means he only scored one (1!) goal and seven points in the final 27 games of the season he played.
