Ray Emery signed by Flyers for remainder of season

Ray Emery is officially sticking around. The Flyers announced Friday afternoon that they’re signing the veteran goaltender for the remainder of the season. He’s not eligible to play in the postseason, but Michal Neuvirth is expected to be back if the Flyers do make the playoffs.

Anthony Stolarz is also still on the roster, so there’s no guarantee that Emery even sees the bench.

Emery is also on waivers today, but that’s needed by rule since he was previously playing in Europe. Some have speculated that a team in direct competition with the Flyers for a playoff spot could attempt to thwart the effort by placing a claim on Emery, but that’s probably far-fetched.

For our sake, let’s hope that Emery doesn’t need to get into a game here. He’s not had a good year, bouncing between two AHL teams — three games each with Ontario and Toronto — and playing just eight games in the German league. In those 14 total games, he allowed 41 goals on 369 shots.
