The Philadelphia Flyers need a centerman with some skill more than anything in the world, and one could be available for completely free this summer. Thankfully, it has been reported that the Flyers are interested.
Vitali Pinchuk is getting a whole lot of attention. The 24-year-old is wrapping up an incredibly impressive campaign in the KHL with Dinamo Minsk, who just last week, swept Dynamo Moskow in the first round are currently waiting for their second round opponent. The 6-foot-3, 203-pound center led his team in scoring with 31 goals and 66 points in what was certainly a breakout year at the right time.
The Belarussian pivot is in the final year of his contract with Minsk and is going to be a free agent — so with such a performance and being a centerman capable of actually producing some points, it makes a whole lot of NHL teams are sniffing around. That includes the Flyers.
Flyers interested in top KHL free agent center Vitali Pinchuk
According to Daily Faceoff’s Anthony Di Marco, the Flyers are one of the teams who have expressed interest in signing Pinchuk this summer.
Not sure if it's already been said, but I'm told the Flyers do have some level of interest in Vintali Pinchuk.@DailyFaceoff

Pinchuk will be eligible to sign his one-year, entry-level contract as soon as he wraps up his current playoff run with Minsk but considering just how many NHL teams are interested and going to be talking to Pinchuk’s representatives, this could stretch out a whole lot longer than that.
Earlier, it was reported that upwards of 29 teams have inquired about the player in some capacity. And then just on Sunday, Frank Seravalli mentioned that over 15 teams are interested — whether that means the number is slowly going down as teams are getting told that they’re not going to be a destination, or that technically 29 is over 15, it’s a good sign that we’re getting tidbits of information as we inch closer to Pinchuk being able to sign a deal.
We previously touched on that the Flyers should be one of the many teams interested in Pinchuk, as he is a 6-foot-3 and skilled centerman — basically the dream player for the organization to fill a specific role. And even if he flames out or is nowhere near good enough to be above the likes of Noah Cates and Christian Dvorak in the lineup, in a somewhat classic sense of a KHL All-Star not being able to keep up with the NHL’s pace of play and physicality, then there can be an agreement reached quickly of a mutual termination of his contract, or just finding a spot for him elsewhere.
It’s really an incredibly low-risk move, and the ceiling is that Pinchuk can potentially be a solid option down the middle. For most teams, someone that can chip in offensively and support high-end wingers, might just be a third-line center with the occasional appearance in the top six. For the Flyers, that type of player could be their first-line center next season, if it all works out.
Nothing is for certain, of course, but Pinchuk really does have the soft skill to work in the tight areas of the ice and has the willingness to drive to the net, which some other past top KHL free agents might not. He didn’t earn all his points from just rocketing off mid-range shots and then slow-moving passing plays on the larger ice surface — Pinchuk went to the front of the net and got in the mud of the offensive zone, cleaning up on second chances by using his 6-foot-3 frame. That is something that could make him successful in the NHL, too.
Maybe the Flyers’ selling point is that he could easily be in the top six as soon as October or November, and if he’s not, he’ll be next to Matvei Michkov on the third line (for some reason) and maybe they can form a partnership that leads to something more.
Philadelphia should face stiff competition to sign Pinchuk, as other teams around the league truly have zero worthwhile centers and with just one year to then earn his next contract, the free agent would want to get as many minutes as possible to do so. We’ll just have to see where this goes.
