The Philadelphia Flyers have not yet made it official but reports indicate that the team has signed forward Nolan Foote to a one-year contract. The deal most likely will see Foote begin the season in the American Hockey League to play with the Lehigh Valley Phantoms.

The contract is a two-way deal, meaning he’ll make $300,000 with the Phantoms in 2026-27 while earning $850,000 with Philadelphia. So, unless he dazzle and stuns everyone in training camp, and Philadelphia run into a ridiculous rash of injuries, he’ll be a depth piece on the Flyers’ affiliate.
Foote also fell into a special category of player in terms of contracts as he was a Group 6 unrestricted free agent as he was on an expiring contract, was 25 years old, and had played fewer than 80 National Hockey League games over his career.
Flyers get some more organizational depth with Nolan Foote
A first-round draft pick of the Lightning back in 2019, Foote — who turns 26 in November — never played a game for Tampa. He was traded in February 2020 alongside a first round pick in 2020 from Tampa to New Jersey in exchange for Blake Coleman. From 2020-21 to 2024-25, Foote spent brief stints with the Devils each season. In 2020-21 he scored a goal and had two points in six games while playing seven games the following season with New Jersey, scoring three goals and adding an assist. From 2022-23 to 2024-25, he played a total of 17 games with the Devils, scoring twice and earning an assist over that time.
Most of the time with the Devils was spent in the American Hockey League with Utica. In July 2025, Foote was signed as a free agent by Florida. He played 12 games with the Panthers last year with a lone goal. As has been the norm, Foote spent most of last year in the American Hockey League with Charlotte. He had 14 goals and 32 points in 54 games. Foote also played three playoff games in the AHL, scoring a goal and adding an assist. In 42 career NHL games, Foote has seven goals and three assists for 10 points.
With Foote’s signing, the Flyers have essentially recouped the six players the team didn’t extend qualifying offers to earlier this week. As previously reported, Philadelphia extended qualifying offers to Trevor Zegras, Nikita Grebenkin, Jamie Drysdale, and Hunter McDonald. On July 1, the team signed four players who were primarily depth or swing players for the organization: Danila Klimovich, Zach Aston-Reese, Cam Dineen, and Jack Studnicka. The Flyers also resigned Carl Grundstrom — who played part of the season in Lehigh Valley — to a one-year deal.
Foote is another depth piece who might be able to develop with the Phantoms. However, the worst-case scenario is that he helps shelter some prime Flyer prospects who are about to begin to rookie or sophomore years in professional hockey.
