Sam Ersson shines in preseason debut with last year in the rearview

Getting his first action of the preseason, Philadelphia Flyers goalie Sam Ersson didn’t show any signs of rust.

The Flyers defeated the visiting New York Islanders by a score of 2-0 at Wells Fargo Center Thursday night. And along with Russian prodigy Matvei Michkov, who recorded an assist and an empty-net goal in his home debut, Ersson deservedly got a fair amount of praise after the final horn.

He was busy throughout the tilt, stopping all 37 Islanders shots en route to his first shutout — albeit a preseason shutout — since April. He was tested from the jump, facing 15 shots in the first period alone.
