A fun way to support local youth hockey

Ed Snider left a lot of legacy when he passed, but it’s arguable that the biggest impact will be made by his Ed Snider Youth Hockey foundation, which aims to support local kids and teach important life skills through the game of hockey.

Later this month, you can be a part of the Snider legacy by registering your office, men’s league team, or just a bunch of friends in their office chair hockey tournament. That’s right, office chairs. From their official press release:

Hockey fans who don’t know how to skate, fear not! The Ed Snider Hockey Foundation is hosting a Chair Hockey Tournament on a vacant floor of the 1900 Market Street building, courtesy of Brandywine Realty Trust, on Thursday, October 25 at 5:30 p.m.

Teams of six can enter for a minimum donation of $1,000 which includes the use of the office chairs, food drinks, prizes and celebrity appearances. All proceeds of the night benefit Ed Snider Youth Hockey Foundation’s educational and post-secondary scholarship programming. Premier Office Solutions is the presenting sponsor of the inaugural chair hockey tournament.

Philadelphia Flyers legends Bernie Parent, Joe Watson, and Brian Propp will serve as honorary co “chairs” of the event.

“Chair hockey is a fun way for friends, co-workers, and others to blow off some steam, have fun, meet some Flyers celebrities all while raising awareness and funds for the Ed Snider Youth Hockey Foundation,” said Scott Tharp, President, Snider Hockey. “Similar to deck hockey or street hockey, these competitors will sit on desk chairs in custom rinks constructed in a vacant office building and slide across the floor attempting to score goals and points for Snider Hockey.”

Interested participants are encouraged to visit sniderhockey.org or call 215-952-4157.

Snider Hockey is dedicated to helping inspire and academically motivate young people to excel, despite financial and social challenges. Through a joint venture between Snider Hockey and Give Something Back, the Goals & Assists Foundation was created to provide Snider Hockey participants with the opportunity to attend one of several post-secondary institutions. Proceeds from the Chair Hockey Tournament will help fund the Goals & Assists Foundation and help enable student-athletes to attend college debt free.

The tournament is being held on Thursday, October 25 and will feature Flyers legends Bernie Parent, Bob Kelly, Joe Watson, and Brian Propp as “chairs” of the event. For more information about the tournament and how to sign up, visit their official website.
