Thursday Morning Fly By: Bernie’s still the coolest

Today’s open discussion thread, complete with your daily dose of Philadelphia Flyers news and notes…

*In these slow Flyers’ news days, we here at BSH aren’t the only ones taking the opportunity to look back at cool Flyers stuff from the past. Did you know the Broad Street Bullies almost weren’t The Bullies? That’s wild. [Inquirer]

*And when you look back at The Bullies you’re going to think of Bernie Parent, and the cool thing about Bernie is he isn’t just past, he’s present and future, too. Having him around is pretty neat. [Inquirer]

*Speaking of looking back, Tyson Foerster’s 2023-24 season was pretty, pretty, pretty good. [BSH]

*Looking ahead to the draft (I’m doing a thing here, have you picked up on it?), You People seem to think the 5th overall pick will be a center from Canada. [BSH]

*Apparently there has been some movement in the Team Canada sexual assault case. Not a lot of movement, but movement. [NBC Sports Philly]

*Here’s some thoughts on how each team in the East, including your Philadelphia Flyers, can become a playoff contender. [The Athletic]

*Will the Flyers be in the free agent market come July 1? Unclear, but probably not given the weak class and the not-at-all-ready-to-compete roster. But maybe they’ll pick up some cheapies to flesh things out? Who can say. Anyhoo here’s some rumors, way ahead of schedule. [Sportsnet]

*And finally, having goalies like Brian Boucher and Henrik “Not Attractive” Lundqvist as part of broadcast teams has been a very cool development, allowing us fans to gain some insight into a part of the game that is rarely publicly analyzed in any meaningful way. Here’s a deep-dive into the proliferation of something called RVH, which Lundqvist introduced us all to on a TNT broadcast the other day. Super interesting stuff. [The Athletic]
