Thursday Morning Fly By: More things were said

Today’s open discussion thread, complete with your daily dose of Philadelphia Flyers news and notes…

Eric Hartline-Imagn Images

*Yesterday it was Rick Tocchet’s turn to face the media for the exit interviews, and we definitely learned some things. Like, for example, what he plans to do to try and fix the Flyers’ offensive problems. Goals would be good! [BSH]

*Tocchet also said quite a lot about Matvei Michov — what he expects from him, why he scratched him, etc. [BSH]

*Anyway it was quite a lot of chatting and quite a lot of insight from the coach. We love to see it. Hear it, rather. [Inquirer]

*In case you missed it, Dan Vladar revealed he was hurt in the Penguins series and, as a result, won’t play at Worlds. In case you needed another reason to hate the Penguins. [BSH]

*Anyway back to Matvei Michkov; guess what he did today? Got on the ice to get some reps in. Kid cares. He wants to be better. [BSH]

*While we’re talking coaches, on Tuesday we pointed out how much better the Flyers’ defense performed this season than what was expected at the start. Can probably chalk that up to all of the guys on D really buying into Todd Rierden’s schemes. [BSH]

*Speaking of the defense, it’s going to be a big summer for Emil Andrae. Unclear if the Flyers plan on keeping the pending RFA, but Andrae intends to do what he can to impress the front office this offseason. [BSH]

*And finally, if there was one theme to be gleaned from each of these exit interviews, it’s this: only up from here. That’s the goal, anyway. [Inquirer]
