Thursday Morning Fly By: The day before the day

Today’s open discussion thread, complete with your daily dose of Philadelphia Flyers news and notes…

Nov 20, 2024; Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA; Carolina Hurricanes center Jordan Staal (11) and Philadelphia Flyers defenseman Rasmus Ristolainen (55) battle for position in front of goaltender Ivan Fedotov (82) during the third period at Wells Fargo Center. *Alright, we’ve made it to the last game before the trade deadline. Maybe the Flyers will win it! IT DOESN’T MATTER. [PHLY]

*Because sure they’ve hit a little hot streak. Their playoff chances are around 11%. Let’s not kid ourselves here, hmm? [Inquirer]

*You could describe it as a “tough call” for Danny Briere but it isn’t. This isn’t hard. Rebuild isn’t over, advance the rebuild, you’re not winning anything with this lineup. [NBC Sports Philly]

*But hey, maybe they’ll lose and make the choices a little easier. Solid chance given that Rick Tocchet is doing some uh… stuff, with the lineup. [BSH]

*Anyway the thing that seems to be propelling this stretch of positive results is the defense. [The Athletic]

*Okay back to the deadline stuff. Yes, we’re still talking about Rasmus Ristolainen. Apologies for writing about the unending trade rumors days ahead of the trade deadline on our hockey blog. Anyway, Tyler Myers was traded which means we’ve got a pretty solid framework for what we should expect in return for a hypothetical Risto trade. [BSH]

*Speaking of rumors, another guy has recently popped up in the rumors over the last couple of days. [BSH]

*If Ristolainen does end up being moved before tomorrow’s deadline, how’s his time as a Flyer grade out? [BSH]

*Another day, another round of What The Insiders Are Hearing. [ESPN]

*Dreger’s got some of his own Insider information to peddle to us, of course. [TSN]

*And finally — we’re sure you’ll love this — something wholly unrelated to the trade deadline: a look at the Flyers big looming problem at center, which is the uh… center of the team’s scoring woes. [BSH]
