As you may know, Trevor Zegras was just dealt to Philadelphia for Ryan Poehling, the 45th overall pick, and a fourth rounder in 2026.
League-wide, Zegras bursted into the league with his highly-skilled, often controversial playing style, with tons of conversation stirred up over his repeated Michigan attempts. He’s really fun, and immediately jumps into the fold as one of the Flyers highest-skilled forwards.
So, in honor of Zegras joining the Orange and Black, let’s dive into some career highlights of Zegras and the high-level plays we can expect from the former Anaheim Duck.
10) First career NHL goal
No highlight list is complete without a player’s first milestone – their first NHL goal. For Zegras, the goal came in late March of 2021 against the now defunct Arizona Coyotes (coached by Rick Tocchet), assisted by current Flyer Jamie Drysdale.
9) Zegras goes end to end in OT
At the beginning of his 65-point 2022-23 season, Zegras had an impressive OT game winner vs the Leafs, in which he protects the puck down the length of the ice and snipes it past the goaltender. It’s a good showcase of the skill and strength combo that Zegras has when he’s on the move.
8) Shootout savant
Zegras has a career 61.9% success rate in shootouts, which ranks second all time in NHL history. He’s scored 13 goals on 21 attempts, with 4 game deciding attempts in the process. That’ll be music to a lot of fans ears, considering the Flyers’ all-time shootout record.
7) Spin spin spin
Zegras has such a high-end ability to pull off multiple moves with the puck in short order, and this clip shows that. He gathers the puck, quickly does a full spin, and fires the puck top corner in this one.
6) More spins, but this time against the Flyers
Does anyone remember this play from late April of 2022? Probably not, but Zegras puts the absolute moves on one of his best friends, Cam York.
5) Lacrosse goal vs the Coyotes
Now the fun really starts, as the first Zegras lacrosse-style goal enters the list. This one is a slick finish against the Coyotes and goalie Karel Vejmelka.
4) Behind the net flip pass vs Sabres
Zegras makes a lot of his money behind the net, as he can create offense in a variety of ways from behind the goalie. He can even flip the puck over the net to his teammates, as shown in the highlight above.
3) Michigan against the Kraken
Zegras has pulled off the Michigan numerous times, and in this play against Seattle, Zegras returns from injury with a pretty vicious lacrosse goal.
2) Zegras goes in-between the legs
Against Seattle again, Zegras pulled off an absolutely nasty move on the fly, flipping a puck between the legs and past Philipp Grubauer.
1) The first time Zegras scored on the Michigan
The biggest impact of Trevor Zegras in the NHL so far is probably in his abilities to pull off the Michigan, something that Flyers phenom Matvei Michkov tried and failed to complete numerous times in his rookie season. We’ll see if Zegras’ influence can help Michkov pull off one of his own in Philadelphia.
