Travis Konecny returns to Flyers practice, immediately gets injured again

The Philadelphia Flyers have been having increasingly bad injury luck lately and it’s only gotten worse.

The Philadelphia Flyers are currently experiencing a whole lot of injuries and after Saturday night’s 7-2 loss to the Tampa Bay Lightning, they need these players back as soon as possible. Travis Konecny missed that terrible experience of a hockey game, but he appeared to be quickly getting back into action as he (as well as recently injured Bobby Brink) returned to practice on Sunday morning.

Well, about that.

Just minutes after Konecny re-joined the group and was taking part in the typical drills, he was limping off the ice after reportedly taking a big blow during practice. It certainly looked like, by all accounts from the beat reporters that were present at Flyers practice, that something happened to Konecny’s lower body.

Is it good if all of a sudden one of your team’s leading scorers comes back from an injury and then roughly a dozen or so minutes later, gets a completely different injury and had to leave practice early? Probably not.

Later, after Konecny was struggling to get off the ice and to the back, he was seen trying to walk off the knock around by the bench and getting checked out by Flyers training staff. There is at least a somewhat good sign that he didn’t immediately go down for the count.

And after just trying to shake it off, Konecny got back on the ice for a very brief skate; really trying to test out whatever is bothering him. While that is a positive sign that he’s actually able to get on the ice, he did not look good — the video provided by NBC Sports Philadelphia’s Jordan Hall featured a whole lot of him gliding by while doubled over, and pushing through the neutral zone at a very slow and careful pace. Konecny then, as practice was almost over anyways, left the ice.

Maybe the silver lining to all of this is that no one really knew when to expect Konecny back in action. He returned to this practice in a regular jersey, so all eyes were on Monday’s rematch against the Lightning for his return, but now that might be slightly delayed.

The good news is that some other injured Flyers are potentially coming back. As mentioned, Bobby Brink was also back at practice in a regular jersey, so it is certainly a possibility that at the very least, he’s back in the lineup for Monday. Plus, defenseman Jamie Drysdale, after being cheapshotted against the Anaheim Ducks, has been back for both Saturday’s morning skate and Sunday practice, but in a non-contact jersey.

We’ll just have to see when everyone returns but nothing appears to be long-term. Let’s just hope that no other players suddenly pick up a giant knock at practice and have to miss their former window to return.
