*Big news yesterday: Flyers Head Coach Rick Tocchet will join the Team Canada coaching staff at the Olympics next year. That’s pretty neat. It’s nice to know that the guy Danny Briere chose to lead this team continues to be held in very high regard. [BSH]

*Second bit of news from yesterday: Porter Martone confirmed that he will, in fact, be heading to college. Michigan State, to be specific. [BSH]

*If you’re a subscriber over at Charlie’s website you can check out his thoughts on why Martone chose to go the NCAA route and what it might mean for his future with the Flyers. [PHLY]

*Since you’re probably going to be a big fan of the Michigan State Hockey Team now, we did you a solid and started thinking about who he might end up playing with during his freshman season. [BSH]

*Next year will be a big one in Philly sports generally, with America’s 250th birthday bringing all kinds of events to the city. Dan Hilferty wants us to know that we cannot even begin to imagine how cool it is going to be. [Inquirer]

*We all know the Flyers’ power play needs to get better. Because it has been real, real bad. For a long time. And it turns out, if you want to be successful in the NHL playoffs, you’re going to have to depend on your power play. [TSN]

*And finally, the folks over at the failing New York Times decided to poll NHL fans about which local broadcasts they think are the best. What we learned is that people don’t respect Jim Jackson nearly enough. [The Athletic]
