Before everyone checks out for the day completely and goes into Phillies Mode, we’ve got a bit of news to recap. After, to a bit of our surprise, being placed on waivers yesterday afternoon, Wade Allison has officially cleared (again, to a bit of our surprise). Allison is now eligible to be sent down to the Phantoms, but the Flyers have not yet made the call to assign him there (though at this point, it’s safe to assume that this move will be coming eventually).
And for those keeping track at home, this leaves the Flyers with 13 forwards on the NHL roster, with both Tyson Foerster and Bobby Brink remaining with the team. It remains an open question how exactly everyone will line up for the season opener next week, but it seems that the door is being left open for at least one more of the kids to get some playing time.
As for Allison, it’s hard to imagine this is the last we’ve seen of him with the NHL squad. For now, though, if he does get assigned to the Phantoms, he’ll factor in as both a key contributor for them, as well as a strong leader by example for a team pretty well stocked with younger prospects. And after a less than ideal training camp for him, it will be nice to see him get a chance to play a lot of minutes and get back to his game. It’s all more fun that way.
