Today’s open discussion thread, complete with your daily dose of Philadelphia Flyers news and notes…

*Wasn’t a “must-win” by technical definition, but it was a game the Flyers needed to win to make a statement. The statement being, “hey, we’d really like to make the playoffs. That would be fun.” Instead they, once again, shit the bed against the Blue Jackets. Recap.

*Noah Cates had himself a penalty shot last night — didn’t score, sure, but still fun — and that was just a continuation of the very good play we’ve seen from him over the last several games. [Inquirer]

*Also great lately? Owen Tippett. Real good. Good stuff. [NBC Sports Philly]

*Know who has not been great though? Real bad, even? All season? Forever, pretty much? Sam Ersson, and it’s a bigger deal than you might think. [BSH]

*It wouldn’t have been shocking for the Flyers to come out after that west coast swing looking a little tired, a little jump-less… but they haven’t really. And if they ARE tired, they’re finding ways through it. [The Athletic]

*You’re boys were hot this week folks! People were noticing! They certainly made sure to cool that all off last night though huh? [Sportsnet]

*Alright I’m sure you can probably guess who is the consensus best prospect currently in the Flyers’ system, but where would you rank him among all the other teams’ best prospect? [ESPN]

*Wasn’t so much the case last night, but the Flyers have had a real hard time generating shots over quite a few games recently. It’s not good. In case that wasn’t clear. [BSH]

*And finally, the Department of Player Safety is making noise again, in a bad way, as always, and the players are starting to speak up about it. [Sportsnet]
