Wednesday Morning Fly By: Hardware’s dropping

Today’s open discussion thread, complete with your daily dose of Philadelphia Flyers news and notes…

Eric Bolte-Imagn Images

*We’re probably what, a week or so away from the end of this very long hockey season, so the season awards are going to start dropping. The Norris Trophy was announced yesterday, for example. [TSN]

*Related, now that we are one game in, Conn Smythe, who ya got? [ESPN]

*Like most things in life, this Stanley Cup Final could ultimately come down to goaltending. Stay strong, Freddie. [Sportsnet]

*Anyway, the Flyers. Know how they need a good center really badly? Have you heard about this? Well, perhaps a lightly used Mat Barzal could solve a few of our problems. [BSH]

*Oh yeah, back to awards for a sec… Matvei Michkov might win one. Bet you didn’t see that coming. [BSH]

*It was an interesting year on the Flyers for Nikita Grebenkin. We saw some flashes of a Fun and Good fourth liner, but we also saw some play that was a little less good. A mixed bag, if you will. [BSH]

*We’ve made it to number 13 overall on your BSH Community Draft Board, and you all chose a Very Large Boy who plays like a power forward and comes out of the OHL. [BSH]

*And finally, evidently, Gary Bettman has begun to plan his exit strategy. I’m sure we’ll all love the next guy picked to represent the interests of the league’s owners after Gary hangs them up. Totally. [Sportsnet]
