Why the Flyers’ dominant third line shouldn’t be broken up to start 2025-26 season

The Philadelphia Flyers’ 2024-25 season was one filled with ups and downs, then a few more downs as the season went along. The rather disappointing season Owen Tippett had was offset by the solid rookie year Matvei Michkov delivered. Eventually, a bad power play and even worse goaltending did the team in. But what might have been the brightest spot not named Matvei Michkov was the Flyers third line.

Noah Cates, Bobby Brink, and Tyson Foerster were together for nearly all of the season. And night after night, they would routinely be the team’s most consistent line. It was one of the better moments in former coach’s John Tortorella’s tenure with Philadelphia: not just putting the three together but sticking with them, giving them time to create some chemistry.
