The 2016 NHL Draft is in nine days, and with the conclusion of the 2015-16 season on Sunday, the official draft order is set as we prepare for the Friday night in Buffalo.
The Toronto Maple Leafs have the first pick, awarded to them after the Draft Lottery back in April. Auston Matthews is expected to go No. 1 overall to the Leafs.
The Philadelphia Flyers hold 10 picks in the draft, beginning with the No. 18 overall pick. They haven’t traded away any of their original seven picks in this draft, and they have acquired three others:
- … the 52nd overall pick from Chicago as a result of the trade that sent Kimmo Timonen to Blackhawks in February 2015. This was a conditional pick awarded to the Flyers after Chicago advanced to the Stanley Cup Final with Timonen having played in 50 percent of playoff games to that point.
- … the 82nd overall pick from Los Angeles, acquired in the January trade that sent Luke Schenn and Vincent Lecavalier to the Kings. The Flyers received forward Jordan Weal and this pick in that trade.
- … and the 172nd overall pick from Los Angeles, acquired on the second day of the draft a year ago in South Florida. The Flyers traded down in the fourth-round of last year’s draft, sending the 99th overall pick to the Kings in exchange for the 104th overall pick. and this pick in the 2016 draft. /
