Stop me if you’ve heard this before, but the Flyers are going to open the season on the road. It marks the third-straight year the Flyers have opened their season away from the fans at the Wells Fargo Center.
The Flyers’ 2018-19 campaign begins on Thursday, October 4 at the Stanley Cup runner-up Vegas Golden Knights as part of a two-game road trip along with a visit to the Colorado Avalanche two days later on October 6th. The home portion of the Flyers schedule will begin on Tuesday, October 9 with the home opener against San Jose.
The season will end with a matchup on April 6 against the Carolina Hurricanes, though with any luck the Flyers’ season will be continuing towards the playoffs at that point in time.
Here are more notes on the Flyers’ 2018-19 schedule:
- There are two five-game homestands, with one in November from the 8th through the 17th and also in February from the 2nd through the 11th. The February homestand features five-straight home games and a stretch of seven of ten at the Wells Fargo Center.
- The 2019 Coors Light Stadium Series game will again feature the Flyers and the Penguins on Saturday, February 23 for an 8pm puck drop from Lincoln Financial Field, home of the 2018 Super Bowl Champion Philadelphia Eagles. The Flyers will look to avenge their 4-2 loss to Pittsburgh at Heinz Field a season ago.
- There are 13 back-to-back games on the schedule, and 12 of them feature runs of three-games in four nights. Ouch.
- Put your Black Friday Shopping on hold on November 23rd and take in the Flyers and Rangers for a 1pm puck drop.
- The Western Canada trip starts with a road date in Buffalo on December 8, then swings into Winnipeg a night later with visits to Calgary (Dec. 12), Edmonton (Dec. 14), and Vancouver (Dec. 15).
- The longest road trip for the Flyers will be five games, but both of those trips on the 2018-19 slate occur in December and early January.
- The Flyers will play each of their divisional opponents four times —twice at home and twice on the road. They will play all eight Atlantic Division teams three times and will play each Western Conference team twice — once at home and once on the road. /
