In a season with a lot of darkness, Owen Tippett proved to be a very bright spot for the organization. In his first full season with the Flyers, he shattered his previous career highs in basically every statistical category. His efforts did not go unnoticed, as he was awarded the Pelle Lindbergh team award, which goes to the most improved player. As mentioned earlier, last year we saw a career year from Owen Tippett. One of the biggest criticisms that you hear from Flyers fans is that we don’t shoot the puck enough, and Tippett is just the opposite of that. He recorded 10.3 shots per 60 last year and for good reason as he finished second on the team in goals. What type of role do we expect Tippett to play this season? As far as systems are concerned, I expect Tippett to have virtually the same role as he did last season. He will play in the top six and be one of the first options on the power-play. He will be looked upon this year to once again take another step forward in both on ice and off-ice situations. He has yet to take the ice in the preseason so we haven’t seen what line pairings they’ve been playing with. Tippet finished last season on the left wing because of a logjam on the right side. It\'ll be very interesting to see if that’s something they make permanent or if it was just an end-of-the-year experiment. What would make for a successful season for Tippett? I think its very important to set realistic expectations when grading players this season. At just 24 years old, I think Tippett has the skills to be a future 40 goal scorer, but I don’t think this team is built to have a 40 goal scorer. They will have trouble getting the puck out of their zone and up the ice, meaning they will have trouble scoring goals. For a player like Tippett whose entire game revolves around having the puck on his stick in the offensive zone, this is problematic. Realistically, I’d be happy with a 30 goal season and hovering somewhere around the 60 point mark.
