Coming off of a .936 save percentage in his junior season at Yale – and that was following a .939 save percentage in his sophomore year – former Bulldog Alex Lyon decided it was time to turn professional. And with numbers like that, no doubt there was a bidding war for his services.
A bidding war the Philadelphia Flyers won.
Now, is he going to play for the Flyers in the 2016-17 season? It probably isn’t too likely, at least not to start; Steve Mason and Michal Neuvirth are still under contract, and at this point in time, Anthony Stolarz simply has more professional experience. Even Lyon himself is expecting to spend his rookie professional season in the AHL.
But those are some really good numbers – and to hear just why Lyon decided to go with the Flyers is definitely encouraging. He was a free agent, and he made the choice to be here.
