What’s that you say? The Philadelphia Flyers played a game that went beyond regulation? Oh and 65 minutes wasn’t enough? And they won a shootout? Get out of town.
Playing their third straight overtime game, Philly beat the Boston Bruins 3-2 in a shootout on Sunday night. The game marked the second of road back-to-backs and their third game in four nights.
Five of six November games have gone beyond 60 minutes thus far. Overall, the Flyers have played overtime six times this year, with five needing to be decided by a skills competition. Philadelpiha is 3-2 in shootouts this year.
Carter Hart stopped all three shooters, including the league’s leading goal scorer David Pastrnak, who also had a chance to untie the game when he got a penalty shot late in the third, but the Excellence of Execution held strong on that chance as well.
Hart stopped 26 of 28, and was extremely clutch, stopping Pasta on his free breakaway, and denying multiple power play chances in the third. Boston recorded 18 shots between the third period and OT, and while they erased a two-goal deficit, it was Hart who bailed his team out after the skaters in front of him held the Bruins to 10 shots through the fist two periods.
