Averman would be the best player in this Mighty Ducks sequel

Sure, the Anaheim Ducks are a bad team. But it’s not like these Flyers haven’t lost plenty of games to bad teams. And in the afternoon? This one had let down written all over it, following the win streak snapping loss to the Kings on Thursday.

But Carter Hart would not allow such nonsense.

The 20-year-old sensation stopped 30 of 32 quack attacks, including all 27 at even strength, to claim his eighth consecutive victory, tying the NHL record for a win streak by a netminder before his 21st birthday (Jocelyn Thibault did it in March 1995).

The orange and black have points in ten straight games, and have earned 21 of the last 24 points. With a showdown pending on Monday against the Pittsburgh Penguins, the team currently occupying the second wildcard position in the Eastern Conference, things are getting interesting heading into the February 25 trade deadline.

Back to Saturday’s game. Michael Raffl and Phil Varone had two point afternoons, each picking up a goal and an assist in what was a four-goal first period for the Flyers. Yes, you read that right. Raffl and Varone combined for four points in the first period. I think that’s the best summary of the non-Carter Hart action I can give. For everything else, listen to the postgame.
