David Kase suspended in the AHL

Today the AHL announced that Lehigh Valley Phantoms forward David Kase has been suspended two games for an illegal check to the head and will miss the team’s only two games this weekend. The hit occurred in their contest versus the Hershey Bears back on December 7th, and he was assessed a minor penalty at the time.

Shane Gersich, the player on the receiving end of the check, finished the game but has since missed the Bears’ next two contests with an upper body injury.

This is uncommon territory for Kase, who doesn’t have a reputation for reckless hits and had amassed just 16 penalty minutes over the last three regular seasons playing in both the Czech Extraliga and the SHL.
