Desnoyers, Serdyuk have their seasons paused

According to the league’s website, the QMJHL is taking an extended Holiday break and pausing activities from today until January 3rd due to the pandemic. From the league:

The Commissioner of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League today announced that the League is pausing its activities from December 1st, 2020 to January 3rd, 2021. The decision was communicated to QMJHL Members and General Managers during a meeting held earlier today.

“The current situation with the pandemic in the regions in which we operate makes it extremely difficult to play games,” shared Commissioner Gilles Courteau. “With the Holidays just around the corner, the provinces in the Maritimes have restricted access and travel, while red zone restrictions in Quebec do not permit us to play.”

This is relevant to Philadelphia Flyers’ fans because it means prospects Elliot Desnoyers and Yegor Serdyuk have a little over a month off before their next games. Thanks to the Halifax Mooseheads having a pair of games postponed last week due to COVID-19, Desnoyers’ last game was on November 20th and his next game will be on January 6th against the Acadie-Bathurst Titan. Serdyuk and the Victoriaville Tigres last played on November 27th and won’t compete again until January 8th against Rimouski Oceanic.

Desnoyers is in the midst of a pretty impressive campaign, as he currently sits third in the QMJHL with 12 goals and third in points with 25 through just 16 contests. With a career-high 12 goals in 61 games during 2018-19 and 35 points in 61 games during 2019-20 the 2020 fifth-round pick could possibly break both his own records in just a third of the appearances this season. As for Serdyuk he sits 12th on the Tigres with three tallies in 10 tilts this year. Despite throwing 21 pucks on net the 2019 sixth-rounder has only lit the lamp once in 2020-21.
