DEVILS BLOG: In Lou We Trust

In lieu of the typical preview of the evening’s game, today we’re bringing you yet another riveting (ha) edition of Broad Street Hockey Radio. Geoff and I missed Ben this week, but we got on just fine with the knowledge that he hates Dane Cook as much as we do.

And without him, we actually did talk about hockey. From the GM meetings to the Atlantic Division playoff race to something about the Ottawa Senators, Episode 49 actually resembles a hockey podcast. Sort of.

We’ll briefly talk about tonight’s game vs. the New jersey Devils after the jump, but for now, listen to the show right here.

According to reports from the morning skate this AM, Ilya Bryzgalov will be back in goal for the Flyers. It makes sense for reasons you’re already aware of — he’s been playing great and there’s no need to give him more than one game off at a time right now, the team is in a direct battle with these Devils for the No. 5 seed, etc.

Kimmo Timonen and Jakub Voracek will also return, according to reports. You can’t underestimate the return of Kimmo, and Voracek’s addition means Jody Shelley sits. That’s a trade off any of us should welcome any day of the week. Kimmo’s return also means Brandon Manning will be a health scratch. Pavel Kubina and Andrej Meszaros remain out of the lineup.

Martin Brodeur makes his first start in Philadelphia since the 2010 playoffs … seriously. That’s pretty insane. Johan Hedberg has started every game at the Wells Fargo Center since. Technically speaking, this is actually Brodeur’s first ever start at the Center named Wells Fargo.

The Devils stifled the Flyers in just about every regard on Sunday night, tying the orange and black in points with 85. It was nothing to be alarmed about after five straight wins, but having Bryzgalov in net going for a third-straight shutout, and with the return of Timonen in front of him, the Flyers shouldn’t get beaten like that twice in a row. Not against a team that they’re battling for playoff positioning against.

Game thread at 6ish. The game’s on TCN tonight (not exactly sure why; There’s no Sixers game and the Flyers are home), which sucks for a lot of us, but you can always listen on WIP too.
