Evgeny Medvedev reportedly arrested under suspicion of DUI

NBC 10 and Sons Of Penn are reporting that Flyers defenseman Evgeny Medvedev was arrested early Wednesday morning in Lower Moreland for suspicion of driving under the influence.

According to NBC 10, a Lower Moreland Police chief told the station that Medvedev was arrested at around 2:45 a.m. Wednesday after a traffic stop. He’s apparently been released from police custody.

The news broke shortly before team general manager Ron Hextall gave his end-of-season press conference at the Flyers Skate Zone in Voorhees. At that press conference, Hextall was asked about the reports but did not respond to them, saying he didn’t have any information about the situation.

We’ll update when there’s any sort of confirmation from the team. Medvedev, who came over from Russia at age 32 to play for the Flyers on a one-year contract, likely wasn’t going to be re-signed by the team this offseason anyway. He was often a healthy scratch under head coach Dave Hakstol this season and will be an unrestricted free agent on July 1.

If the news of the DUI is indeed true, then that should just about seal his fate in Philadelphia.
