There you have it, folks. With just two games left on the schedule and their playoff hopes still hanging in the balance, the Flyers went into this matchup with the Devils with some momentum, and were able to ride it straight to another win. Let\'s get into it. The Basics First period: No scoring Second period: 10:50- Travis Konecny (Laughton, Seeler) SHG Third period: No scoring SOG: 21 (PHI) - 20 (NJD) Some observations Getting it done The Flyers came into this game with a good bit of momentum, after pulling off something of a surprise win over the Rangers on Thursday, and they certainly were able to keep that rolling this evening in their penultimate game of the season. It was a bit of a strange game -- somewhat low event, with just one goal scored, and both teams only just managing to break 20 shots on goal each. The Flyers started this game looking like they\'d taken a bit of a step back from the level of sharpness that they showed against the Rangers, but they were able to bend without breaking, and just weathered the early storm before pulling themselves back into the game. This wasn\'t their sharpest of showings, nor their most commanding in terms of offensive chances created, but it was certainly a step up from how things were looking just a week ago. There\'s still some work left to be done in their process, but this was a step in the right direction, and tonight it was enough to take care of business. Brink trending up As we said, there wasn\'t an overwhelming amount of offense generated in this one, and because of this, the positive flashes that we did see felt just a bit more noticeable. One such positive contributor was Bobby Brink, who came away from this one, despite only playing about 12 and a half minutes, with five individual shot attempts and three shots on goal, good for second on the team this evening. It\'s been a bit of an up and down season for him, as might be expected from a player in his first full season in the league, but it\'s been nice to see him stepping up recently and making his presence known more on the offensive side again. Travis Konecny is Back On a similar note of players getting themselves back to top form and stepping up when it\'s needed most, Konecny was really noticeable in this game, and made his mark in a big way -- scoring the Flyers\' lone goal of the game, and shorthanded, no less, and picking up his 400th NHL point in the process. https://twitter.com/NHLFlyers/status/1779275481642369025 In some ways, it\'s felt like the team has gone as Konecny has gone recently, and his cold spell and the team\'s losing streak felt pretty inextricably tied. And there was some frustration, from both fans and seemingly from Konecny himself, that he wasn\'t able to be the one to step up and drag the team out of that skid himself, and that was tough. But we\'re in the most important stretch of the season now, and he\'s getting hot again at just the right time. Sam Ersson came up big And further to the theme of getting back on track, Sam Ersson had a quietly very solid game tonight. He didn\'t face a ton of activity -- the Devils only managed to put 20 shots on net, and only managed three high danger chances at 5-on-5, but he still looked very settled and sharp, and managed to stop all of the shots they sent his way. It\'s a far cry from what we\'ve seen from him recently, as he seems to have caught a second wind, and he\'s looking much like his more assured, confident self from earlier in the season. Wayne Simmonds Night And, of course, the big happening of the evening was not just this regular run of the mill Flyers game, but it was the honoring of Wayne Simmonds, who after signing a one-day contract, has officially retired as a Flyer. https://twitter.com/NHLFlyers/status/1779255208574333004 It was a nice boost of positivity, seeing Simmonds back in Philly, in the midst of what\'s been a pretty strange and tense period of the season. And Simmonds came in with a message to them as well, to leave it all out there on the ice, and the team certainly did that. It wasn\'t a perfect game, as we said, but they were very solid, the effort that they brought was enough to get the job done, and to keep their playoff hopes alive for just a little while longer.
