Flyers a front-runner for Frozen Four MOP Drake Caggiula

When the NCAA hockey season ends, there’s always a rush of teams looking to sign free agent players. And when one of those free agents is the most outstanding player of the Frozen Four? Well, that so happens to be Drake Caggiula this year.

Caggiula, 21, went undrafted in the NHL. He committed to the University of North Dakota, where he just wrapped up his senior season in storybook fashion: 25 goals and 51 points over 39 games, career highs, as he led his team to a national championship.

Next stop: going professional. And because he was undrafted, he has his pick of teams. And it just so happens the Philadelphia Flyers are one of them.

This shouldn’t come as a surprise: he played for North Dakota. His first three seasons were under Dave Hakstol, who just got the Flyers back into the playoffs. Perhaps he wants to reunite?

Caggiula wouldn’t be the first high profile college free agent the Flyers would snag this off-season: they already got one of the best NCAA goalies in Alex Lyon.
