Flyers prospect report: Adam Ginning pitches in offensively

Welcome to BSH’s weekly prospect update, where we will be serving up stats and insight on what our homegrown players have been up to. This will include prospects in Canadian Juniors (BCHL, OHL, QMJHL & WHL), Europe (SHL, KHL), and NCAA college hockey. If you have any questions or suggestions, feel free to leave them in the comments.


Prospects playing in Canadian junior
Elliot Desnoyers (LW), Halifax Mooseheads (QMJHL)
2020 5th Round Pick, 135th overall

  • 1/30 – 1 assist, 2 shots on goal, 14/29 on faceoffs
  • 1/31 – 8 shots on goal, 1 hit, 16/26 on faceoffs/

In his first games since November 20th, Desnoyers recorded an assist and an eight-shot performance. He’s up to 12 goals and 14 helpers in 18 games this season.

Yegor Serdyuk (RW), Victoriaville Tigres (QMJHL)
2019 6th Round Pick, 165th overall

  • 1/30 – 1 hit
  • 1/31 – 1 assist, 1 shot on goal, 4 penalty minutes/

Serdyuk ended a four-game point drought with an assist in Victoriaville’s most recent tilt bumping his point total to four in 14 contests.

Prospects playing in Europe
Emil Andrae (LHD), HV71 (SHL)
2020 2nd Round Pick, 54th overall

  • 1/26 – 1 assist
  • 1/28 – Did not play
  • 1/30 – 1 assist/

Andrae picked up his first points in the SHL since December 3rd, as he is up to five helpers and 10 shots on goal averaging 11:12 a game in 25 appearances.

Adam Ginning (LHD), Farjestad BK (SHL)
2018 2nd Round Pick, 50th overall

  • 1/28 – 1 shot on goal, 2 hits, 2 penalty minutes
  • 1/30 – 2 assists, 1 hit, plus-3/

Ginning posted two assists in Farjestad BK’s most recent outing for his first multi-point game in the SHL since February 25th, 2020. The blue liner has a pair of Ginos on 22 shots and nine points this season.

Olle Lycksell (F), Farjestad BK (SHL)
2017 6th Round Pick, 168th overall

  • 1/28 – 1 shot on goal
  • 1/30 – 1 shot on goal/

The forward had a ho-hum seven days as he upped his shot total to 39 while his point total didn’t budge from 10 (four goals) in 31 contests.

Samuel Ersson (G), Brynas IF (SHL)
2018 5th Round Pick, 143rd overall

  • 1/26 – 28 saves on 33 shots against, loss
  • 1/28 – 19 saves on 20 shots, shootout loss
  • 1/30 – 49 saves on 56 shots against, loss/

Ersson has been going through Hell since last Monday with three losses where he saw 13 pucks beat him in the midst of a 109-shot bombardment. The former fifth-rounder has seen the blue paint four times since his last victory, as he has 10 wins in 26 tilts with a .909 save percentage, 3.13 goals against average, and one shutout.

German Rubtsov (C), HK Sochi (KHL)
2016 1st Round Pick, 22nd overall

  • 1/27 – 9:30 time on ice
  • 1/29 – Did not play
  • 1/31 – Did not play/

Even though HK Sochi played three games this week Rubtsov barely participated as he dressed once for 9:30 of work. Don’t look now but he’s on an eight-game point drought and 14-game goal drought.

Ivan Fedotov (G), Traktor Chelyabinsk (KHL)
2015 7th Round Pick, 188th overall

  • 1/26 – 29 saves on 31 shots against, win
  • 1/28 – Did not play/

Fedotov recorded his second straight win this week with 29 stops in a win over Nur-Sultan Barys. The gigantic Russian is now 11-6-2 in 2020-21 with a .922 save percentage, 2.22 goals against average, and one shutout.

Matej Tomek (G), SaiPa (Liiga)
2015 3rd Round Pick, 90th overall

  • 1/26 – Did not play
  • 1/29 – Did not play
  • 1/30 – Did not play/

Marcus Westfalt (C), Vasterviks IK (HockeyAllsvenskan)
2018 7th Round Pick, 205th overall

  • 1/27 – 9/15 on faceoffs
  • 1/29 – 2 shots on goal, 5/16 on faceoffs
  • 1/30 – 2 penalty minutes, 4/9 on faceoffs/

Westfalt provided another underwhelming seven-day span in the HockeyAllsvenskan, as the pivot stands at seven points (four goals) in 35 appearances in 2020-21.

Prospects playing in NCAA
Bobby Brink (RW), University of Denver (NCHC)
2019 2nd Round Pick, 34th overall

Due to a ‘combination of positive COVID-19 tests’ Brink and the Pioneers did not play this week. The former second-rounder is still looking for his first collegiate goal of 2020-21, as he has five helpers in seven games this season.

Bryce Brodzinski (RW), University of Minnesota (Big Ten)
2019 7th Round Pick, 196th overall

  • 1/29 – 1 shot on goal, 2 penalty minutes (1 shot attempt)
  • 1/30 – Did not play/

With only one shot on goal while playing in half of the Golden Gophers’ games Brodzinski had a humdrum last seven days. The winger has four tucks on 29 shots and six points in 14 outings this year.

Jack St. Ivany (RHD), Boston College (Hockey East)
2018 4th Round Pick, 112th overall

Jay O’Brien (C), Boston University (Hockey East)
2018 1st Round Pick, 19th overall

O’Brien and the Terriers were slated to face off against St. Ivany and the Eagles this weekend, but Boston University decided to move the back-to-back due to COVID-19 concerns. O’Brien has two goals on nine attempts with four points in five appearances, while St. Ivany has started his Boston College tenure with two points in his first three contests.

Gavin Hain (C), University of North Dakota (NCHC)
2018 6th Round Pick, 174th overall

  • 1/29 – 1 shot on goal, 1 blocked shot (2 shot attempts)
  • 1/30 – minus-1 (2 shot attempts)/

Hain still has four goals and five points for UND this season, after his four shot attempts this week were unsuccessful. The Flyers’ prospect has also fired 23 pucks on net in 17 nights of work this year in addition to blocking 15 shot attempts.

Noah Cates (LW), University of Minnesota-Duluth (NCHC)
2017 5th Round Pick, 137th overall

  • 1/29 – 1 assist, 1 shot on goal, 1 blocked shot, 15 penalty minutes, 4/11 on faceoffs
  • 1/30 – 1 assist, 12/2 on faceoffs/

Cates did more dishing with the disc than firing this week, as he accumulated a pair of assists while only throwing two pucks towards the opposing net. The winger is second on the Bulldogs with 14 points 17 games into his junior season.
