Flyers prospect report: Another multi-point game for Desnoyers

Welcome to BSH’s weekly prospect update, where we will be serving up stats and insight on what our homegrown players have been up to. This will include prospects in Canadian Juniors (BCHL, OHL, QMJHL & WHL), Europe (SHL, KHL), and NCAA college hockey. If you have any questions or suggestions, feel free to leave them in the comments.

Prospects playing in Canadian junior
Elliot Desnoyers (LW), Halifax Mooseheads (QMJHL)
2020 5th Round Pick, 135th overall

  • 11/18 – 1 goal, 1 assist, 4 shots on goal, 2 penalty minutes, 12/28 on faceoffs
  • 11/20 – 1 assist, 3 shots on goal, 15/30 on faceoffs/

Although the Halifax Mooseheads failed to win either of their games this week Desnoyers still managed to produce another multi-point performance. With eight multi-point nights in 16 contests so far this season the Flyers’ fifth-round pick sits third in the QMJHL with 12 goals and third with 25 points.

Yegor Serdyuk (RW), Victoriaville Tigres (QMJHL)
2019 6th Round Pick, 165th overall

  • 11/17 – 3 shots on goal, 2 hits, minus-3
  • 11/18 – 3 hits, minus-1
  • 11/21 – 3 shots on goal, 2 hits, 0/1 on faceoffs/

After he produced a goal and an assist in his first three games of the season, Serdyuk has now gone four straight tilts without a tally. He has one goal on 13 shots on net and a helper for two points in seven contests in 2020-21.

Prospects playing in Europe
Emil Andrae (LHD), HV71 (SHL)
2020 2nd Round Pick, 54th overall

  • 11/21 – 12:10 time on ice/

In HV71’s first game since Halloween, Andrae skated a little over 12 minutes in a 3-2 defeat to Farjestad BK. The 2020 pick has thrown eight shots on net so far in 14 contests but he’s still looking for his first goal on 2020-21, as he has two assists, four hits, and five blocked shots to his credit.

Adam Ginning (LHD), Farjestad BK (SHL)
2018 2nd Round Pick, 50th overall

  • 11/21 – 1 goal, 1 shot on goal, 2 penalty minutes, 1 hit
  • 11/22 – 1 shot on goal/

Ginning’s first goal of the SHL season was a crucial one, as he potted the game-winner on his lone shot on net in Farjestad BK’s victory over fellow Flyers’ prospect Andrae and HV71. He now has one goal on nine shots this year with two apples for three points in 16 outings.

Olle Lycksell (F), Farjestad BK (SHL)
2017 6th Round Pick, 168th overall

  • 11/21 – 11:47 time on ice
  • 11/22 – Did not play/

After he failed to post a point for a seventh straight game Lycksell was left out of the lineup for Farjestad BK’s most recent contest. He’s 13th on the club with four points in 16 tilts and 20th with an average ice time with 11:27.

Samuel Ersson (G), Brynas IF (SHL)
2018 5th Round Pick, 143rd overall

  • 11/19 – 29 saves on 31 shots against, loss
  • 11/21 – 29 saves on 30 shots against, win/

Ersson provided essentially the same performance in a pair of contests this week with two wildly different outcomes for Brynas IF. After he stopped 29 of the Vaxjo Lakers’ 31 shots on goal in a 3-1 loss the 2018 pick posted 29 stops in the club’s second tilt of the week but received a ton of goal support in a 7-1 decision over the Frolunda Indians. Ersson has won four of his 11 appearances while sporting a .905 save percentage and 3.08 goals against average.

German Rubtsov (C), HK Sochi (KHL)
2016 1st Round Pick, 22nd overall

  • 11/19 – 1 shot on goal, 7/16 on faceoffs
  • 11/21 – 1 shot on goal, 1 hit, 6/14 on faceoffs/

Rubtsov continues his underwhelming KHL campaign, as he only mustered a pair of shots on goal and won under half his faceoffs in two games this week. He now has a four-game point drought (where he’s only thrown a pair of shots on net) and has gone 15 straight appearances without lighting the lamp.

Maxim Sushko (RW), Dinamo Minsk (KHL)
2017 4th Round Pick, 107th overall

  • 11/19 – 1 shot on goal, 4 penalty minutes
  • 11/21 – 1 hit, 1/1 on faceoffs/

Rubtsov wasn’t the only Flyers’ prospect with a quiet week in the KHL, as Sushko provided only one shot in a two-game span while forcing his team to kill off a pair of penalties. His lone point in 18 contests this year was a goal in Dinamo Minsk’s third game of the season, as he’s now gone 15 straight outings without a tally.

Ivan Fedotov (G), Traktor Chelyabinsk (KHL)
2015 7th Round Pick, 188th overall

  • 11/16 – Did not play
  • 11/18 – 26-save shutout
  • 11/22 – 7 saves on 8 shots against/

After he sat out for Traktor Chelyabinsk’s first game of the week, Fedotov pitched a 26-save shutout in a 1-0 victory over SKA St. Petersburg thanks to a tally from Tomas Hyka. He also made a relief appearance in the club’s 5-2 loss yesterday after Will Roman allowed four goals on 16 shots against halfway through the defeat. Fedotov has won his last five decisions to reach a 7-2-1 record with a .948 save percentage and 1.42 GAA.

Matej Tomek (G), SaiPa (Liiga)
2015 3rd Round Pick, 90th overall

Despite the fact SaiPa had a back-to-back this weekend Tomek failed to see the blue paint. He hasn’t appeared in any of the team’s last three contests, as he has an .899 save percentage and 2.83 GAA in six games this season.

David Kase (LW/RW), HC Energie Karlovy Vary (Czech Tipsport Extraliga)
2015 5th Round Pick, 128th overall

  • 11/17 – 1 goal, 1 assist, 3 shots on goal, 4/16 on faceoffs
  • 11/20 – 3 hits, 5/18 on faceoffs
  • 11/22 – 2 shots on goal, 1 hit, 2 blocked shots, 2 penalty minutes, 6/16 on faceoffs/

Following a two-point performance to start his week Kase provided a pair of physical appearances where he got bullied at the dot. The forward is up to eight points in nine tilts for HC Energie Karlovy Vary in 2020-21.

Felix Sandstrom (G), Vasterviks IK (HockeyAllsvenskan)
2015 3rd Round Pick, 70th overall

Sandstrom didn’t see the ice in either of Vasterviks IK’s games this week, as the team’s starter Daniel Marmenlind is currently second in the HockeyAllsvenskan in save percentage (.933) and GAA (1.96). The Flyers’ prospect only has one win in five games despite his .921 save percentage on the year.

Marcus Westfalt (C), Vasterviks IK (HockeyAllsvenskan)
2018 7th Round Pick, 205th overall

  • 11/18 – 1 assist, 1 shot on goal, 3/18 on faceoffs
  • 11/20 – 12/27 on faceoffs/

With an assist in his first game of the week Westfalt is now up to two goals and two helpers in 2020-21 for four points in 17 games.

Linus Hogberg (LHD), HC Vita Hasten (HockeyAllsvenkan)
2016 5th Round Pick, 139th overall

  • 11/17 – 1 assist, 3 shots on goal
  • 11/20 – 1 shot on goal/

Hogberg continues to rack up points in his strong 2020-21 HockeyAllsvenskan campaign. With an assist and four shots on goal in a pair of appearances this week the blue liner is up to one goal on 18 shots and nine apples for 10 points in 15 games. Hogberg is also third on the club in terms of average ice time with 20:36 of work a night.

Kirill Ustimenko (G), HK Gomel (Belarusian Extraleague A)
2017 3rd Round Pick, 80th overall

Ustimenko didn’t dress for either game this week, as he still has only played two contests for HK Gomel this season.

Prospects playing in NCAA
Cam York (LHD), University of Michigan (Big Ten)
2019 1st Round Pick, 14th overall

  • 11/19 – 1 assist
  • 11/20 – 1 shot on goal, 2 blocked shots/

York and the University of Michigan kept rolling this week, as the Wolverines posted back-to-back wins over the University of Wisconsin. The Flyers’ first-round pick in 2019 had a helper in Thursday’s 5-2 victory before he had just a shot on net in Friday’s 2-1 overtime outcome. York’s up to four points (one goal) and 12 shots on goal in four contests in 2020-21.

Bryce Brodzinski (RW), University of Minnesota (Big Ten)
2019 7th Round Pick, 196th overall

  • 11/19 – 4 shots on goal
  • 11/20 – 2 penalty minutes/

Brodzinski and the Minnesota Gophers started their season off with a pair of wins over the Penn State Nittany Lions. Although he has yet to record a point this year, the forward had four of the school’s 28 shots on net in their 4-1 decision on Thursday. Brodzinski and company go right back at it with another back-to-back tonight and tomorrow against the Ohio State Buckeyes.
