Welcome to BSH’s weekly prospect update, where we will be serving up stats and insight on what our homegrown players have been up to. This will include prospects in Canadian Juniors (BCHL, OHL, QMJHL & WHL), Europe (SHL, KHL), and NCAA college hockey. Notable Canadian junior performers this week:
Jay O’Brien (C), Penticton Vees (BCHL)
2018 1st Round Pick, 19th overall
Five goals in his last four games; seems good! That is 55 points (20 G, 35 A) in 38 games total. That is third highest points-per-game in the BCHL for the much-maligned prospect.
Mason Millman (D), Saginaw Spirit (OHL)
2019 4th Round Pick, 103rd overall
Its been a quiet few weeks for Millman who has just four points in his last eight games. However, he does have 30 (12 G, 18 A) in 43 games overall, good for 12th in the OHL among defensemen and 7th overall on Saginaw.
Yegor Serdyuk (RW), Victoriaville Tigres (QMJHL)
2019 6th Round Pick, 165th overall
While he likely falls behind his first year QMHJL production, 29 points (12 G, 17 A) in 35 games in his second year isn’t too shabby either for the 18 year old.
Wyatte Wylie (D), Everett Silvertips (WHL)
2018 5th Round Pick, 127th overall
Wylie quietly closing in on his career-high in points. He is at 43 (11 G, 32 A) in 46 games. Wylie needs just four more points to tie with roughly 30 more games to play.
Egor Zamula (D), Calgary Hitmen (WHL)
Undrafted Free Agent
Some bad news in case you didn’t hear, it was announced that he will have to undergo back surgery and miss the rest of the season. Zamula will finish with 28 points (7 G, 21 A) in 28 games for Calgary.
Roddy Ross (G), Seattle Thunderbirds (WHL)
2019 6th Round Pick, 169th overall
It has been…a season for Rowdy. He is holding onto a .908 SV% in 35 appearances.
Notable European performers this week:
Linus Högberg (D), Växjö Lakers HC (SHL)
2016 5th Round Pick, 139th overall
HUGE weekend for The Hog, who scored his fourth goal and sixth/seventh assists through 36 games this season. Check out his PP goal here.
Olle Lycksell (RW/C), Linköping HC (SHL)
2017 6th Round Pick, 168th overall
I think I mentioned in the comments last week that Lycksell is my favorite overseas prospect at the moment (though the competition isn’t exactly tight). Those are goal number six and assist 11 in 36 games. That isn’t bad for a 19 year old in his second full SHL season. They aren’t exactly Lindblom vibes, but he is someone we need to keep an eye on.
Adam Ginning (D), Linköping HC (SHL)
2018 2nd Round Pick, 50th overall
No games for Adam Ginning this week as he received a four game suspension for this hit.
Samuel Ersson (G), Brynäs IF (SHL)
2018 5th Round Pick, 143rd overall
Ersson got into two games this week, one was after coming in after Joakim Ericsson got pulled. The 20 year old has a .896 SV% in 21 appearances, which places him 23rd overall among SHL goaltenders.
Marcus Westfält (C), Västerviks IK (Allsvenskan)
2018 7th Round Pick, 205th overall
Marcus Westfält has six points (three goals and three assists) in 40 games.
David Bernhardt (D), SaiPa (Liiga)
2016 7th Round Pick, 199th overall
Since transferring to Liiga, Bernhardt has put up one goal and three assists in 20 games.
Ivan Fedotov (G), Traktor Chelyabinsk (KHL)
2015 7th Round Pick, 188th overall
The 22 year old has a .926 SV% in 26 games this season in the KHL. That ranks him 22nd among KHL netminders.
Notable collegiate performers this week:
Bobby Brink (RW), University of Denver
2019 2nd Round Pick, 34th overall
Brink helped Denver beat Miami University in both matches this weekend. Brink has 21 points (9 G, 12 A) in 25 games. It is the third most points for any NCAA players 18 and younger (behind Cole Caulfield and Trevor Zegras).
Wade Allison (RW), Western Michigan University
2016 2nd Round Pick, 52nd overall
Are we done being mad at Allison yet? He has four goals in his last four games (and three additional assists). While he is only up to 11 points (5 G, 6 A) in 15 games, it appears he is finally putting his injuries and recovery behind him. Here is his goal from Saturday.
Tanner Laczynski (C), Ohio State University
2016 6th Round Pick, 169th overall
Tanner keeps the point-per-game pace with 26 (7 G, 19 A) in 26.
Noah Cates (LW), University of Minnesota-Duluth
2017 5th Round Pick, 137th overall
Cates has been fun as heck to follow this season. The sophomore has 23 points (12 G, 11 A) in 24 games this season. Here is his goal from Friday.
Bryce Brodzinski (RW), University of Minnesota
2019 7th Round Pick, 196th overall
Brodzinski and Minn beat up on Tanner and OSU, taking both games this weekend. Brodzinski scores his third goal of the season and seventh point overall in 24 games.
Gavin Hain (C), University of North Dakota
2018 6th Round Pick, 174th overall
Status quo for the sophomore, who has 10 points (2 G, 8 A) in 24 games.
Cam York (D), University of Michigan
2019 1st Round Pick, 14th overall
No regulation games for Michigan this week. Cameron has 11 points (4 G, 7 A) in 18 games his freshman year.
Wyatt Kalynuk (D), University of Wisconsin
2017 7th Round Pick, 196th overall
This is probably the season (his third year) in which he will eclipse the 25-point mark. He has 20 (6 G, 14 A) in 24 games. You can see his Friday goal here.
Ronnie Attard (D), Western Michigan University
2019 3rd Round Pick, 72nd overall
What a neat little season Ronnie Attard is having, huh? Nine points (6 G, 3 A) in 18 games overall. This even comes with missing a few weeks due to an injury. He is on the “look out for this kid” Wyatt Kalnyuk Track.
Jack St. Ivany (D), Yale University
2018 4th Round Pick, 112nd overall
St. Ivany racking up those assists this season. He has 12 of them through 19 games, however he has just one goal.
