Gauthier’s agent says it’s ‘private issue’ why player refused to sign in Philadelphia

This saga just will not stop.

In case you missed it, the Philadelphia Flyers traded one of their top prospects in Cutter Gauthier off to the Anaheim Ducks on Monday night. Then it was revealed that the player told the team that he would not be signing with the team, despite them making him a part of their long-term plans. Then, a flurry of rumors as to why this deal went down was brought up and then eventually shot down as invalid reasons.

Now, fans are left with more questions than answers and the only concrete facts are that there was a transaction made and that Gauthier did not want to play for the Philadelphia Flyers.

That is until Tuesday’s edition of TSN’s Insider Trading. On the broadcast, NHL insider Pierre Lebrun mentioned how he reached out to Gauthier’s agent, Kurt Overhardt, and asked if he an explanation as to why the player did not want to sign with the Flyers.

“It’s a private issue between the player and his family,” Overhardt told TSN’s Pierre Lebrun. “We definitely had conversations with Philadelphia, we had very respectable conversations with Philadelphia about it, we’ve chosen just to take the high road and leave all that information private.”

Again, more questions than answers.

If Gauthier or Overhardt came out and just said that they did not like the long-term direction of the Flyers, or that it is as simple as the player liking the warmth of a Los Angeles suburb instead of living in Philadelphia, we would at least have some answers. Now this “private issue” seems just slightly odd and plainly, out of nowhere.

Is it the fact that he grew up a fan of the Pittsburgh Penguins? Really? That seemed just like a silly, little joke to make online, but now, it might have just been really that.

We do not know anything, and we suppose we will just leave it private.
