The Flyers have had more success against the Ottawa Senators this season than they have against any other club. In two games against the Sens, they’ve combined for 10 goals and only two allowed.
Given the up-and-down nature of this current road trip, and with the reigning champs looming on Wednesday in Chicago, we could certainly use another five goal outburst tonight in Ottawa.

While the Flyers are basically treading water these days and remain within striking distance of playoff position, things are feeling pretty bleak up in Ottawa, who in the Atlantic Division have a much tougher road to the postseason than the Flyers. Ottawa lost 4-3 in a shootout to the rival Leafs on Saturday night, and leading into tonight’s game over at Sens blog Silver Seven, they’re saying things like “a win tonight is kind of important for the team’s playoff hopes.”
It is their 31st game of the season.
So, we should expect a desperate Senators team tonight. Craig Anderson will be in goal for the opponent, while Steve Mason will go for the Flyers. Mason gave up more than three goals in a game for the first time on Saturday vs. Dallas, so he’ll look to bounce back from what, really, was his first “weak” performance of the year, if you could even call it that.
Tye McGinn has been recalled to replace the injured Vincent Lecavalier, who was officially placed on injured reserve today. No word on if McGinn will check into the lineup tonight or if the Flyers will go with the same group of 12 that played in Dallas. On defense, Kimmo Timonen’s status is a mystery as well. He left Saturday’s game midway through and nothing’s been said about whether or not he’ll be ready to go tonight.
It’s the final meeting of the year against an Ottawa team that’s down in the dumps. Let’s hope the Flyers are back on the upswing tonight in the fifth game of this six game road trip. The game is on the Comcast Network in the Delaware Valley, and it’s a 7:30 start. Go Flyers.
