How Flyers’ remaining schedule compares to teams chasing them

The Philadelphia Flyers battled their way through the seven-game gauntlet in the middle of March to a solid 2-3-2 record. After losing to the Maple Leafs and Bruins, the Orange and Black beat those two teams while forcing overtime against the Hurricanes and Rangers to pick up six points in their last five games.

The Flyers are now well positioned in the playoff race both in terms of public models and the remaining schedule. MoneyPuck gives the Flyers an 86.1% chance to make the playoffs with Hockey Reference a bit lower at 73.6%. The betting market has the Flyers at -425 (DraftKings) to make the playoffs which implies an 80.95% probability.

Let’s take a look at the standings through play on Wednesday, March 27:

The Flyers and Capitals are fighting for third place in the Metropolitan Division with the Red Wings in the hunt for a wild card spot if either of the Metro teams fall. The Devils and Islanders aren’t completely out of it, but we’re going to be focusing on the Flyers’ two main competitors as of now: Washington and Detroit.

The good news for the Flyers is all they have to do is take care of business to clinch a playoff spot. They don’t necessarily need the teams behind them to lose, although that would be nice.
