Introducing Flyers Fan Fridays

It was brought to my attention recently that some of the long time members of Broad Street Hockey are feeling like the members of the masthead are losing touch with the community. This didn’t sit well with me, everything we do is for you, so I took some time to think about what we could be doing differently. We have lost a lot of good writers since this blog began, people who really were the foundation of the community, and I don’t want to lose our identity with the departure of Travis. My first thought was that we needed to hear more from the community, not just in the way of commentary on our articles but actually leading dialogue and ideas. Introducing :drumroll please: Flyers Fan Friday!

We want to highlight you. Yes, you. Let’s get really familiar with both FanPosts and FanShots, they’re right up there at the top of the home page. First, you’ll need a Broad Street Hockey account if you don’t have one already. Next, I want to see your content. Did you go to a game and take photos? That’s a FanShot! FanShots support content that is unwritten from images to videos to links. Do you have draft or trade proposal thoughts? That’s a FanPost! FanPosts are the place to be for written content.

Beginning this Friday, we will look at all of the content that has been posted as both a FanShot and FanPosts from Friday to Thursday and select one or two to highlight on the front page. If there is no appropriate content in any given week, there won’t be any highlighted fan content. This is also a good time to get reacquainted with our community guidelines. It takes a lot of courage to gather your thoughts and allow other people to pass judgement on them and I won’t allow any troublemakers to ruin the fun for everyone.

Want to participate and need some inspiration? I have some ideas for you!

  • Pick a player and highlight their year or their career (doesn’t have to be a current Flyer)
  • Show us Flyers attire outside of the greater Philadelphia area, this should be an easy one for international fans!
  • Make a case for a current Phantom to make (or not make) the big club next season
  • Let us see you in hostile territory (an away game if you will)
  • Did you make a particularly funny joke on Twitter? You better believe we want to see that
  • Not a writer? Make a video! /

I’m very excited to kick this off and I hope you are too. We are all looking forward to rediscovering the community voices and giving a platform to those who didn’t know it was available.
