Monday Morning Fly By: A week of opportunities

*In case you’re still catching up on what transpired this weekend, the Flyers had an impressive(?) win against their in-state rivals, and they have a chance to complete the home-and-home sweep tonight. What went down on Saturday? Here’s the quick recap. [BSH]

*And if you want some more, Jordan Hall broke down the game with some nice detail. [NBC Sports Philadelphia]

*The Penguins have showed signs of weakness this year, which is a surprising development in light of the all-star roster that they’ve iced for the past several seasons. Is now the time that the Flyers take control of the rivalry? [The Athletic]

*Keeping up with the drama, Noah Cates will be out several weeks with a broken foot, and this means only one thing for the Flyers nightly lineup. The Morgan Frost saga intensifies. [BSH]

*Perhaps one of the most surprising developments this year has been the Flyers’ penalty kill. Sure, the Flyers are far and away from being known for their special teams; but let’s take a moment to enjoy it. [Inquirer]

*On Friday, John Tortorella chimed in about the heavy hit that Garnett Hathaway laid on Luke Hughes. Fortunately, Tortorella rarely holds his tongue, and he had some rather enlightening comments. [NBC Sports Philadelphia]

*Finally, something to follow: In addition to their second game against the Penguins and a should-win matchup versus the Arizona Coyotes coming up, the Flyers will travel to Colorado for a tough bout against the Avalanche. It’s hard to be optimistic about a road game in Denver, but Cale Makar looks to be nursing an injury, which would create a wrinkle in the Avalanche blue line. [ESPN]
