Monday Morning Fly By: On the way out

March 30, 2024; (Philadelphia, PA): The Philadelphia Flyers play a game against the Chicago Blackhawks at Wells Fargo Center. Credit: Heather Barry

*Since we last spoke, the Flyers lose not one, but two games and have fallen pretty firmly outside of the playoff picture. If you feel you must, you can relive the loss to the Sabres… [BSH]

*…And the loss to the Blue Jackets. [BSH]

*That loss in Columbus also saw the Blue Jackets match an NHL record for goals by defensemen in a single game. Because of course. [Columbus Dispatch]

*The worst part about these losses, too, is not just the fact that they happened, and when, but how badly they shook out. [PHLY]

*John Tortorella seemed almost surprisingly measured after that loss on Saturday, but he understands where the team stands. They got themselves into this hole, and they’re the only ones who are going to be able to get themselves out of it. [BSH]

*And it’s been an undeniably tough stretch, but Garnet Hathaway still trusts that the team has what it takes to right the ship. [BSH]

*If they don’t and they miss the playoffs though, we can expect some fallout from this collapse in the offseason. [The Athletic]

*Lest we forget, we also got some news at the end of the week: Sean Couturier is the Flyers’ nominee for the Bill Masterton trophy. [BSH]

*Here’s a full rundown of all of the nominees from around the league, for those interested. [NHL]

*It’s been a weird rookie season as General Manager for Danny Briere, and as we near the end of it, we’re taking a moment to check in and take stock of how it’s gone. [BSH]

*Who doesn’t love a list? Here are five things we’re looking for as we close out the season. [BSH]

*For the lovers of a good old fashioned hockey fight, it’s bit of a mechanics talk. [The Athletic]

*And finally, before we go, some fresh podcast content. First up, it’s Flyperbole. [BSH]

*And a brand new Fly Guys Podcast! [BSH]
