Monday Morning Fly By: Reality, checked

*Well, after that first game in Columbus, in which the Flyers looked pretty good, it took just one single game against a team that is demonstrably better for the whole thing to completely fall apart. Sens game was a mess; recap if you missed it.

*We got to see Claude Giroux be honored for scoring 1,000 career points. That was nice. [NBC Sports Philly]

*The most notable thing about Saturday afternoon’s loss was John Tortorella’s rookie swaps. Which will probably continue as he tries to figure out what the best version of this roster is. [Inquirer]

*One thing is definitely set in stone, though: that fourth line. That Torts is clearly obsessed with. It’s a good fourth line don’t get me wrong but let’s not all get crazy, you know? [The Athletic]

*So what exactly was exposed in Saturday’s game? The defense, of course. It shouldn’t surprise anyone but oh boy is it big time bad. [PHLY]

*People are still asking about the Captain. STILL ASKING ABOUT THE CAPTAIN. [Inquirer]

*Never forget that no matter how bad the Flyers are we can always point and laugh at the things we dislike in the NHL, so have a hearty chuckle about Ivan Provorov’s performance in the opener. Again, probably. [BSH]

*And finally, if you’re like me, and your hockey fandom began in the ’90s, Barry Melrose was a huge part of it. One of the voices narrating the thing that became your favorite thing in the world. And I sure do hope he does well in his fight against Parkinson’s. [ESPN]
