Tonight’s game up in Boston may be shaping up in strange and often suboptimal ways for the Flyers, but we don’t want to be bogged down by any sort of negative details. It’s Saturday, it’s St. Patrick’s Day weekend, and we want to talk about fun things.
The most fun thing we have to report is that Morgan Frost just scored his coolest goal of the season, and perhaps the coolest goal of his career? (Do not fact check us on this).
In the third period of tonight’s game, with the Flyers beginning to look pretty dead in the water, Frost helped to breathe some real extra life into things for them. Settling in for some extended offensive zone time, we saw Frost drop low into the zone, sneak behind the Bruins’ defenders. Cruising through the crease and looking like he might be running out of space to make something happen, he took the puck between his legs and was able to elevate it enough to chip it in past Jeremy Swayman.
It was a fun goal to see scored in isolation, to be sure, but it was a pretty clutch goal in the context of the game itself, as it pulled the Flyers to within one goal with just under five minutes left in the third period. Ultimately, the team as a whole couldn’t rally well enough to complete the comeback that Frost helped to jump start, but it was a big play all the same. We don’t necessarily expect to see that kind of play from Frost on a night in and night out basis, but this was a big show of his confidence right now, and it just seems to be building for him again, of late. And with the Flyers needing all of the help that they can get on offense right now, this is good news for them as well as we head down the stretch.
