New Flyers forward German Rubtsov, selected by the team with the No. 22 overall selection in the 2016 NHL Draft, spoke with the media through a translator after his selection. Video can be seen below.
A few notes:
- It’s not the best interview. He doesn’t speak a word of English yet.
- He’s playing in Russia right now but he says that his agent is working to get him out of that contract and over to North America as soon as possible.
- He didn’t talk too much about the doping scandal that forced his entire under-18 Russian squad out of the World Championships earlier this year, but did say that the team didn’t really know what was happening and that they weren’t knowingly doping.
- He says he’s friends with Ivan Provorov, which obviously will help.
He says the Flyers were the team that contacted him the most over the course of the last year and that scouts were often at his games. /
