NHL Issues Statement Regarding Coronavirus

Earlier tonight, for the health and safety of everybody, the NBA announced that they were suspending the season due to the threat of COVID-19, widely known as the coronavirus. While there were rumblings that the NHL may follow suit, that is not the case. At least not yet.

The NHL has released the following statement:

We’re not professionals and we’re not going to pretend to be. What we do know is that at least one NBA player has already tested positive for the virus, and the NHL may be on their way to suspending their season as well. Given how many arenas, and therefore locker rooms, are shared from league to league, it’d be somewhat surprising if the NHL did not follow in the NBA’s footsteps.

This comes after both leagues — as well as the MLB and MLS — restricted locker room access earlier this week.

Tomorrow should be a big day, as in all likelihood we will be getting an answer as to whether the NHL season will continue, or come to a halt.
