The Flyers may not have a finalist for a NHL award, but at least someone has taken home a prize for their performance in the 2018-19 campaign. In a season full of turmoil, there was always one shining star. And whether he was streaking at the Stadium Series game, or clotheslining goaltenders while dressed as Santa Claus, Gritty was always there when we needed him to be.
Last night Gritty won the “People’s Voice Award for Social: Athletes and Sports Teams” category at the 2019 Webby Awards, and with tweets like these…

… it’s no surprise that Gritty was awarded for his social media presence.
From meeting Ricky Gervais and Shawn Mendes during his appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, to being featured on Time, the Flyers’ mascot quickly became a national sensation in his debut season. And now? Now he’s an award-winning mascot.

The Flyers will be entering the 2019-2020 season with a fair amount of questions to be answered, but one thing is for sure: Gritty is a treasure and is here for the long haul.
